I joined Rotork in 2011 as a Technical Apprentice. I joined when I was 18 after completing my A Levels and it was at this point I decided an apprenticeship would suit me better than university.
Since working at Rotork some of the skills I have learnt are machining - turning, milling and fitting. I have learnt these whilst at college, as well as working as part of a team and independently on the job.
One of the best things about working for Rotork is the variation of work; I am always working with different people so I am able to gain knowledge from them. It is also a great place to work because if you are unsure of what to do, you can ask anyone for help and they will do their best to help you or find someone that will be able to do so.
I am currently in my first year at college which is full time and I am working towards achieving my qualifications. When college stops for the holidays I then go to Rotork, some of the jobs I have done include working in the stores, spares and goods out areas. I have also worked on some of the various flow lines.
Since being at Rotork, I have been completing a Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as well as working towards gaining a Level 3 National Diploma in Electronics. Once I have completed these qualifications, I will then go in to the second year in the National Diploma, which will lead to a HNC and possibly a HND.
As I am in the first year I look forward to continuing to successfully complete my apprenticeship by working in the different departments. At completion of my apprenticeship I then hope to be able to choose a department to continue working in.
