With a passion for maths and physics, coupled with close relatives with an engineering background, it made logical sense to study Engineering at University. Following the completion of my Doctorate in Fluid Mechanics I originally moved into a Research position before considering the transition into the Engineering industry. Joining IMI Precision Engineering as a Design Engineer I rapidly progressed through a number of roles, including a stint working within a pure R&D position developing ground breaking novel technology for the Commercial Vehicle industry, and eventually took on management responsibility for their Life Sciences team. I have now been working within a management role for the last 4 years, supporting a number of different teams at different locations across the UK and joined Rotork at the Midland site at the beginning of June.
It has been an exciting journey over the last 10 years, with each role providing their own challenges, but the variety of activities you are involved in has always kept each job interesting with the possibility to constantly learn new skills and expand your capabilities. I have been able to work alongside a number of high calibre Engineers, who have a real passion and enthusiasm for the industry and even though you may encounter some design issues that require resolving, it has always been a pleasure working within such a driven team and utilising problem solving techniques to produce some innovative solutions. The current management position provides an opportunity to guide and support the Engineering team as they work on a disparate range of projects, passing on my experience to allow them to improve their own capability and deliver unique Engineering solutions.
