Priyang
Product Engineer - Nuclear, Bath, UK

I studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of the West of England (UWE), graduating with an MEng degree in 2009. I entered my first engineering role shortly after as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate working for both the University of Wolverhampton and a manufacturing firm based in Birmingham. I undertook engineering research to aid automation of a production process used in the manufacture of tungsten-carbide tipped blades for the paper industry. During this time I also attained a Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership, which granted me membership to the Chartered Management Institute. Upon completion of the 2 year KTP programme I joined Rotork as a Nuclear Product Engineer and have been working in a team dedicated to designing and developing the next generation of Nuclear qualified valve actuators. The range of knowledge and experience I have gained, particularly with Rotork, has enabled me to reach Chartered Engineer status. Rotork is also supporting me with a PhD which I am undertaking at UWE on a part-time basis.

Engineering is not just about technical and practical skills, it is also about interpersonal skills, managing customer expectations and planning ahead to deliver projects on time. I love my job at Rotork because I have had the opportunity to grow in all of these areas, not only through experience but also a variety of training courses. Working in an international company means I get to interact with other Rotork colleagues around the globe. Rotork has a number of component suppliers and test facilities abroad so there is always a travel opportunity on the horizon. It is rewarding working for the world leader in valve actuation technology.
