Position Summary:

To install, inspect, service, repair actuators and commission associated equipment on customer plant/site.

The holder of this position will be a member of a team of Field Service Engineers who represent Rotork’ s after-sale services, travelling extensively in the UK recording 20-30,000 miles per year with extensive nights away from home. Multiple visits overseas will be a requirement for a duration of which could range from a few days to three or four weeks. Offshore work in the UK sector of the North Sea can also range from a few days to two weeks.

The job holder shall be required to work in end user’s plant primarily in the Water and Waste Water, Petrochemical, Offshore Oil, Gas and Power Generation Industries meeting the client’s regulations and working hours.

The holder will be required to attend training courses to attain a Safety Passport, Confined Space and First Aid competence. The holder will also be required to be trained for Offshore work and carry out customer inductions/medicals.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • To identify faults, repair and test/commission actuators in the field
  • To modify/upgrade actuators in the field
  • Carry out inspections/health checks on Rotork actuators
  • Carry out mechanical and sometimes electrical installation of actuators and associated retrofit adaption components, pedestals and drive shafts
  • To produce site visit reports for each job that are accurate and technically/grammatically correct
  • To produce and submit accurate and detailed expense claims weekly
  • To produce risk assessments and review/amend method statements in line with site requirements
  • To occasionally carry out a detailed valve survey collecting mechanical data/dimensions

Candidate Specification:

  • Able and willing to meet an extensive travel commitment involving multiple nights away from home both in the UK & overseas. A full clean driving licence is required
  • Able to work independently, be self reliant, socially confident and be able to work as part of a team
  • Must be confident and reliable and have the ability to deal with people at all levels with diplomacy and integrity
  • Must be determined, self motivated and able to accept responsibility
  • Must be computer literate with Microsoft office skills
  • 17th Edition Electrical installation certification would be beneficial

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Education/Qualifications

  • Recognised electrical/mechanical/instrumentation apprenticeship or equivalent
  • BTEC National or HNC/HND or equivalent

 Experience

  • Experience post apprenticeship in a practical engineering environment, preferably in a field based role
  • Knowledge of valves, actuators and digital control systems would be advantageous
