Position Summary:

The Field Service Technician, reporting to the Service Manager is responsible to provide service to resolve customer issues as they arise. They will follow the guidance of the Senior Field Service Technician with regards to their attitude towards Health & Safety, Best Practice and Customer Relations. As required Field Service Technician will be available to assist with shop work load. Individual will also have some shared responsibility for sales activity in assigned area.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

Pre-visit preparation

  • Verify site information and conditions are understood before mobilizing to the jobsite and ensure compliance with site safety requirements


  •  Ensure travel is arranged to arrive at site at appointed time
  • Keep accurate records of vehicle mileage & traveling expenses
  • Abide by the travel guidelines to minimize excess mileage on company vehicle

Site visits

  • There are a number of sites to be visited; each has its own challenges and all MUST have an OSRA (On Site Risk Assessment) completed prior to the commencement of work
  • Communicate effectively with client, Service Coordinator and sales team as required about issues or changes
  • Complete all service work in a thorough & efficient manner, including comissioning, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance


  • Ensures job reports are completed on site and a copy handed to the customer
  • Ensures timely entry/submittal (in line with the relevant KPI) of job reports and time sheets to the Service Coordinator
  • Submits expense reports monthly
  • Ensures all safety training tickets are current and up to date before they expire
  • Maintains PPE inspection log to ensure PPE is current and in suitable condition


  • Technician is expected to maintain high level of activity. When not booked on service job the individual must strive to:
    o Be current on reports and communication
    o Be current on vehicle and tool maintenance
    o Be current on Quality and HSE duties
    o Self-manage site survey activity
    o Increase contact with customer base through cold calls, follow-ups, and general territory/relationship management

Candidate Specification:

  • Must be clean shaven when required by jobsite safety program
  • Must be physically fit to work with:
    o Weight up-to 75lbs
    o Heights up-to 100ft
    o Confined space as defined in the OHSA
  • Must be able to travel outside Canada: hold valid passport and maintain clean criminal record as required
  • Must be willing and able to travel, including overnight and for extended periods
  • Must hold valid Class 5 (min) Driver’s License and possess good driving record
    o Rotork may request a driver’s abstract as part of the recruitment process
  • Must be able to pass pre-access drug and alcohol screening as required by Client

Functional / Technical Competencies:

  • Qualified through a combination of experience and education to work around live electrical equipment
  • 3-5 years’ experience preferred, may accept less experience with a higher level of education (e.g. 1 year experience and a 4 year degree)
  • Able to read and understand electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Actuation, instrumentation and valve experience is an asset
  • Detailed knowledge of actuators, especially Rotork, is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, and to maintain/expand existing customer base
