Nicola Rayner – Design Engineer, Rotork UK, Leeds
After enjoying and gaining good grades in both design technology and maths in high school, and having a number of family members who work within engineering, I decided that this was the career path I would like to take. After leaving high school in 2007, I began a Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship within the Gears division of Rotork. Upon completing the 4 year apprenticeship I obtained an HNC in Mechanical Engineering and secured a full time position as a Rotork Gears Design Engineer. After taking a short break from engineering to travel, in 2015 I returned to Rotork UK as a Contracts Engineer, where I then went back into education. I am now a Rotork UK Design Engineer with an HND in Mechanical Engineering.
My role as a Design Engineer involves seeing a number of projects through from start to finish. The daily duties I enjoy the most are designing adaptions, creating general arrangement drawings and dealing with customer queries to their satisfaction. I enjoy working for Rotork as everyone works well as a close knit, friendly team who are always ready to help one another.
