Profibus overview

Profibus compatible actuators from Rotork, meet the international standard for Profibus DP communications. The latest versions of the Profibus card are compliant with Profibus DP-V0 and DP-V1 communication, allowing acyclic messages to be used for data transfer.

The single channel card is ideal for most systems and provides full flexibility for control and monitoring of the actuator. Both the single and dual channel cards support master to actuator DP-V0 data exchange and DP-V1 configuration and enhanced data exchange.

There are two types of dual channel card available; the first ‘simple’ redundant card is ideal for most systems where redundancy is required and does not have the special extended diagnostics for RedCom. The second ‘RedCom’ redundant card follows the specification for Redundant Communications as laid down in the Profibus specification for RedCom and includes the necessary RedCom extensions to the DP-V1 protocol.

Profibus allows multiple devices on a common data bus supported by all PLC suppliers.
Rotork IQ, IQT and Q range electric actuators, EH hydraulic and Skil actuators may be fitted with the Profibus card.

Profibus features

The Profibus DP module (Mk2) fitted to Rotork actuators provides one of the most widely used International Standard network interfaces in use today. Profibus is the leading network for industrial automation and control and provides high speed, reliable, communication over the network.

Profibus DP-V1 compliant

The Rotork Profibus card has three versions available. The single channel, single communication port version is suitable for most applications, whilst the dual channel, dual communication port version is used on redundant systems employing System or Flying redundancy, according to the RedCom standard from Profibus PNO.

Single and Dual channel cards

All versions are fully supported by three different device description file types. There is the normal GSD file, plus an EDD file for use with Siemens PDM and a DTM to use with FDT. These last two utilities use the acyclic message capability introduced by V1 communication.
