Electronics Design Engineer

Position Summary

The position will lead, coordinate and perform all activities relating to procuring underwriting agency approval for product compliance.

Working collaboratively as part of a high performing team, providing expert technical knowledge, you will deliver effective and fit for purpose solutions to our customers globally.

As Electronics Engineer you’ll:

  • Fulfil requirements of the development life cycle from research and concept through to final manufacture. Design, implement and test.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure that Rotork designs and solutions comply with specifications and relevant standards.
  • Take over product development for existing products with regard to electronics, embedded software and associated software.
  • Planning, coordination and technical support of electronics development projects.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Design to meet internationally recognised standards.

You’ll likely have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Product design or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Previous industrial design experience.
  • Knowledge in Altium Designer and/or EAGLE.
  • A team player that shares knowledge and insights, but also able to demonstrate a strong level of initiative.

The Opportunity

This will include intrinsic safety and flameproof hazardous area approvals, SIL approval, Pressure Equipment Directive, CE Mark, Pressure Vessel Integrity and other safety related approvals for new and existing products.

In this position, you will be an integral part of the new product development (NPD) team and will guide the NPD design process so the end product complies with the safety approval level defined in the design criteria. This will entail managing and guiding external underwriting agency vendors through the safety approval process. You will also direct the activities of other engineers and support team members and will report directly to the New Product Development Engineering Manager.

Tasks include assembling all necessary product documentation, test plans, reports, test procedures, agency and submitting this information to underwriting agencies for quoting and conducting their work. Also configuration and preparation of test samples for compliance testing at the underwriting agencies. Additional tasks include monitoring changes in relevant safety standards, effectivity dates, preparing gap analysis of existing products and coordinating necessary changes and resubmittal for maintaining product approval levels.

Experience Requirements

  • Must have experience with managing worldwide approval agency vendors through the product safety underwriting process
  • Must have a working knowledge of international standards for intrinsic safety concepts and flameproof concepts for hazardous area locations including but not limited to:
  1. IECEx (International)
  2. Factory Mutual (USA)
  3. CSA (Canada)
  4. ATEX (Europe)
  5. CCC/NEPSI (China)
  • Must be familiar with CE Mark, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) systems and pressure vessel safety standards

The Successful Candidate

  • Excels in an environment of ambiguity and change, is highly adaptable and relishes the opportunity of working with people around the world on highly technical subjects
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills and can effectively direct and technically challenge external underwriting agencies with the safety underwriting process
  • Project management skills for developing schedules, preparing budges and monitoring and managing costs associated with the approval process
