Principal Software Engineer

Position Summary:

Principal Software Engineer

The Opportunity

This role involves driving technical strategy, enforcing best practice, influencing a wide range of stakeholders and providing effective leadership of internal and external development.

Working collaboratively as part of a high performing team, you’ll work across exciting new product development projects taking lead and ownership of the project plans, setting standards, defining requirements and working with external agencies to support the development of new as well as current products.

You’ll be responsible for all or aspects of the development life cycle, including: development of core products, new feature requests and enhancements, development of new innovative products and adherence to formal design principles using best practice processes.

Using your significant technical knowledge and experience you will provide guidance, influence continuous improvement and inspire best practice. You will need to be proactive, hands on and driven to ensure the delivery of all activities in line with agreed deadlines.


  • Fulfil requirements of the development life cycle from concept, design, implementation test through to final manufacture
  • Lead complex major projects, influence project plans and overall timescales with a focus on ‘on time delivery’
  • Lead design reviews to ensure that Rotork designs and solutions comply with specifications and relevant standards
  • Development and preparation of technical records and reports as may be necessary to demonstrate compliance with associated specification and any relevant standards

Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Software or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Extensive industrial design experience
  • Experience of leading product design life cycle
  • Proven experience of analysing, designing, testing, debugging and enhancing existing/new products used in an industrial environment
  • Unit testing/regression testing experience


  • Understanding of a variety of project management methodologies (e.g. agile)
  • Understanding of network protocols
  • Understanding of electronics and embedded software
  • Understanding of Linux systems and driver development
