Divisional Product Engineering Manager, Rotork Gears, Leeds, UK
When I was 15 a family friend visited and we discussed engineering which I found interesting and helped me to decide this was the path I wanted to take. I left school at age 16 in 1981 and started a 4 year Electrical and Electronics Apprenticeship working for Rotork whilst attending Bath Technical College. Upon completion I moved into an Inside Sales role primarily working within the power and nuclear industry. I then moved in to an Engineering Applications position which I held for 10 years before relocating with the Rotork Controls Division to Rochester, USA, where I took up the Engineering Supervisor Position, soon becoming Controls Engineering Manager. In 2007 I returned to the UK and was appointed Divisional Engineering Manager in Leeds for the Gears Division.
The role involves reviewing customer specifications and making modifications to gearboxes. I thoroughly enjoy it, and in particular the problem solving aspects and logical reasoning required. On Sept 1st I will have completed 36 years working for Rotork and during this time they have provided me with opportunities to progress and develop throughout my career.
