“This programme was the right choice for Emmanuel as, as opposed to academic studies (or university), this apprenticeship focused on practical learning and earning while learning.  

Emmanuel’s day-to-day includes stripping an actuator and building it back up, diagnosing them to understand the health of the actuator, and going on site to service and commission customer actuators. 

He has been part of exciting site visits, including one in Malta which he is one of his highlights during his time in the scheme as he had the opportunity to explore a new place while working and meet a new group of customers. Alongside that, he has also picked up skills that benefit him both personally and professionally. This includes being more confident overall, building strong connections with other apprentices, the ability to step out of his comfort zone, and working with different people and teams within the organisation.  

When asked what advice Emmanuel has for aspiring Service Academy apprentices, he said: "Be open to all situations, take initiative, build relationships, be curious and don't be afraid to ask questions. If you don't know something, always ask."  

He added, "My goal is to stay at Rotork as a Service Engineer, after my apprenticeship ends. I want to get more confident when going on site and I want to be a good engineer. I want people to think of me when they're faced with a difficult job."
