Since the role is built around training and real service work, a typical day can vary a lot. Some mornings start with coursework, emails, or computer-based tasks before heading out to work alongside senior engineers on customer sites.

"That variety is one of the best parts of the apprenticeship." Oscar notes that it keeps the work interesting and gives him the chance to develop practical engineering skills in real situations, while also learning how to communicate, ask questions, and solve problems as part of a team.

A major highlight for him so far has been attending training at Rotork’s headquarters in Bath. "The course gave me the chance to push myself, expand my product knowledge and understand more about Rotork’s equipment, systems and future development opportunities."

"It also helped me build stronger relationships with other apprentices. Spending time with people on a similar path has made the experience more enjoyable and helped me feel part of the wider Rotork team."

The apprenticeship has helped him develop personally, too. "I feel more organised, committed and focused, and I have learned how important it is to take opportunities, push myself and put myself in the best position to progress."

Even though he is still early on in his career at Rotork, he has already been entrusted with responsibility, including completing overtime and carrying out jobs independently. This has helped build his confidence and reputation for getting work done.

For him, the most enjoyable thing about working at Rotork has been the people. "In every area and location, I have worked in, I have been welcomed and treated with respect, equality and kindness."

Oscar's advice to anyone considering a Service Academy apprenticeship is "to go for it if you are ready to work hard, push yourself and develop in an area that interests you." "Service Academy is a great opportunity and a massively effective way to kickstart your career and set yourself up for success."

Looking ahead, he hopes to become a knowledgeable and well-rounded engineer with broad experience across Rotork products. He is also interested in travelling through work, gaining international experience, and continuing to build his career in site services.
