Sebastian - Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager, Sweden

Being a manager is not about having all the answers – this is what Sebastian Holm has found during his time at Rotork. The engineer, who heads up a small team at our Falun office in Sweden, says it’s really all about teamwork and welcoming diverse opinions and insights so that you can view a problem from all angles.

This is why the theme of #TogetherWeEngineer for International Women in Engineering Day hits home with Sebastian. He explained: “For me, engineering is being together. You very seldom solve a problem on your own. You solve it by actually discussing the problem with others, and that’s when you find a solution more easily. With diversity, you get exposed to different solutions and ways of thinking which help and simplify the development process and support innovation.”

Curiosity led Sebastian to a career in engineering and this is what he advises anyone else who wishes to pursue a career in the industry. He said: “Be curious, don’t be afraid to fail and take all the opportunities you can. They’re cliches but they’re true.”

Looking to the future, Sebastian believes that nurturing and utilising our diverse workforce is the best way to keep delivering innovative solutions.

“From my perspective, Rotork is a very open employer for diversity within engineering, and globally,” he said. “It’s fascinating to see how much you can innovate just by looking at the problem through a different set of eyes.”
